Deforestation

Deforestation is the process by which forests are cut down and removed for various reasons. With our rising population (remember 7.1 billion and counting: find out how much at Current world population ) deforestation is continuing at an alarming rate.

If you didn't know, we need these forests for lots of reasons from acting as a carbon sink to flood protection. Reading news and stories can become very depressing.

Also along the same lines, Google has teamed up with various universities and the landsat satellites to show various features on Earth changing over 40 years, including deforestation in Brazil. Have a look at deforestation in Brazil.
